Description

Painted freehand in Photoshop and Painter with a Wacom tablet. Photo refs used for the beetle and cowboy hat.

For this painting I wanted to make something unexpected. Hope you like it. *The link below is to a full-sized version*

Great concept and execution. If I had to point something out, it¨d be that the guy¨s legs could not rest on the wide shell of the bug like that - a horse´s back and a scarab´s back are very different things. I think his thighs would have to be more raised. I love the general treatment of the piece, both on the figures and on the background.

(edited for typos!)

Great technique, I can actually smell the linseed oil from the paints. Great abstract background, convincing placement of subject in picture!!

Augustopatino -- You are very correct about the shell being too wide for someone to ride on in that position. At first, I tried painting it physically correct, but it just awkward and painful for the guy to have his legs spread out so much. It would have ruined the "relaxed" pose that I was shooting for. But hey, it's a physically impossible situation anyway! I mean the guy has to be like half an inch tall :)

Maybe you should have added a little green shine on the guy, reflected from the beetle. Anyway, very cool. :)
